West Kill Brewing

As with most things you work for there has to be a reward, so after hiking we like to find good food, good beer or both (preferably dog friendly). After inadvertently completing half of Hunter Mountain and all of Diamond Notch Falls we were ready for good brew. Now let me tell you when I say the trailhead and parking areas for both hikes are in the middle of nowhere. So we were happily surprised that not far down Spruceton Road was a handmade sign by the road indicating West Kill Brewing. Ah salvation….We proceeded up a narrow driveway and were greeted by a cute rustic tap room and an abundance of outdoor seating and fireplaces. The brewery is located on a 127 acre dairy farm and they use ingredients from the farm in their beer. Due to COVID there was no indoor seating but they were serving up 6 or so different beers for enjoying there or to go. As with most breweries nowadays we had to purchase our required “Cuomo Chips.” We found a nice picnic table and sat down to a beautiful view of West Kill Mountain. We enjoyed a few Kaaterskill IPA’s while Red enjoyed our “Cuomo Chips.”

The beer was golden hazy with a nice mix of citrus and tropical fruits. While we had not heard of this brewery, the beer and atmosphere was great and whenever we are hiking in the area we will be back!
