The Big Red Dog

Many years ago we acquired our first English Pointer, Logan. He was by far the best all around dog I have ever owned. Fast forward a few years and my husband got involved in horseback field trials. Competing led to breeding and suddenly I found myself with a house full of pointers and one beagle.

Luckily we narrowly avoided this and he quickly joined the pack. Around 8 months he started to refuse to eat and became extremely ill. He was finally diagnosed with Addison’s disease which basically means his adrenal gland do not function so in order to survive he has to have an injection every month along with daily prednisone. For the longest time he was coddled, afraid something might set off a relapse. Over time we realized that him having this disease didn’t mean he couldn’t still be a dog. We have taken him on vacation, to restaurants, breweries, hiking, camping, you name it he has done it. Now in my lifetime I have probably owned over twenty dogs and have seen all types of personalities, but Red is in a class all his own. His favorite past time
